Two Maoists were arrested by the police from the Kanaguda forest in the Kalimela area in Malkangiri district late on Sunday night. They were forwarded to court on Monday.
The duo identified as Deba Madkami and Wagah Padiami was working as militia members of a Maoist group operating in the area. The State Government had announced Rs 1 lakh award on Madkami. The police seized four landmines, 27 detonators, gunpowder and various Maoist articles from the possession of the two.
“During combing operation, joint forces of Kalimela police along with BSF personnel arrested the duo from the forest,” said Malkangiri DSP Pramod Kumar Bag, adding, “They informed us about explosives kept secretly in a barrel near Kanaguda.”
