Two residents of village Balijhuri under the Talpatia police outpost died after a truck rammed into their motorbike near the Black Diamond Engineering College in Jharsuguda district on Sunday.
The deceased were identified as laxman Kishan (40) and Sumant Kishan (25). Agitated over the incident, the locals blocked the busy Jharsuguda-laikera road to demand compensation for the victim’s families.
After five hours of chaos on the highway, the villagers withdrew the road blockade only after an assurance from the truckers union to pay compensation of `50,000 to the kin of the deceased.
In addition to this, the Red Cross will also provide `10,000 compensation to the victim’s families. The Jharsuguda police seized the truck and arrested the driver.
