Two persons were detained by the Angul police for reportedly attacking the Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) Basudev Nayak and other forest staff in the Divisional Forest Officer’s (DFO) office on Wednesday.
The attackers were identified as Pradeep Sahoo and Jitendra Samal of Purunagarh. Following the incident, the forest conservation officials met the Angul Additional SP and demanded stringent action against the accused duo. They also sought police protection at the office premises.
According to reports, the duo had filed an RTI application asking for some information from the department.
They reached the office in morning to follow up the matter and asked ACF Nayak about the delay in getting the information. The official told them that the procedure requires time and that the reply would reach them soon.
However, the duo remained adamant and demanded that the information be given to them immediately. Soon, a heated altercation ensued between them and the forest officials, following which the duo attacked Nayak and other officials.
On getting information, police rushed to the spot and detained both accused.
