Two hardcore Maoists of the Odisha Border Zonal Committee of CPI (Maoist) surrendered to police in Rayagada district on Friday.
The duo was identified as Rama Mandingi (19) and Nabisha Sirika (16) of Andhra Pradesh. They surrendered as they wanted to return to the social mainstream, Rayagada Superintendent of Police Rajesh Pandit told media persons here. The duo was indulging in offences like extortion from businessmen and traders in Koraput, Rayagada and other districts, he added.
Mandingi and Sirika were not happy with the activities of their colleagues, they confessed. Following differences within the Maoist cadre, they gradually got disillusioned and decided to return to the mainstream. The Maoists were also attracted by the Government’s rehabilitation policy and package.
