Two persons have been awarded life imprisonment by a local court in separate murder cases in Baleswar district. Additional District and Sessions Judge-2 Ashok Kumar Panda awarded life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 15,000 to Manas Das of Oupada near here for torture and murder of his wife Gouri two years ago.
In default of the payment of fine, he would have to serve an additional jail term of six months. In the other case, the same court sentenced Himansu Sekhar Das of Firingi Patna village under the Sahadevkhunta police station to life imprisonment for committing murder of a married woman, Arati Sahu, in March, 2012. While the main accused Himansu was convicted, his younger brother Manas was acquitted. Another accused is a minor and would be tried in a juvenile court.
