Hockey fever has gripped the entire State and Sundargarh in particular, as two players from the district are representing the national team in the ongoing Men’s Hockey World Cup at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.
Amit Rohidas and Birendra Lakra have made Sundargarh proud after being named in the Indian team for the Hockey World Cup. They played against South Africa in the first game, in which India routed South Africa by 5-0.
The journey of Sundargarh lad Rohidas to the national team involved a lot of struggles. He had in his childhood days no money to buy a hockey stick even as his parents were very poor. However, his steely determination and talent made him a successful athlete.
