After a few days’ gap, the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) on Saturday resumed its demolition drive by pulling down the upper two floors of a four-storied structure of Amber showroom on Janpath as the floors were constructed without securing the mandatory approval from the BDA.
“The demolition of the illegal structure of the building will take three to four says to complete. Nearly 20 personnel of the BDA and the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) enforcement squads are engaged for the drive,” said Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) Enforcement Officer Deba Prasad Dash.
He said the owner of plot-95 under the Kharavel Nagar police limits was permitted only to construct a building taking ground floor and first floor. But he illegally constructed the four-storied building violating the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) guidelines.
“Though the owner of the showroom Sudhanshu Samantaray had appealed for a stay order from the High Court against our demolition notice, the court rejected his plea, thereby facilitating us to demolish the building,” added Dash. Two platoons of police force were deployed on the spot to prevent any eventuality.
The BDA had first stared its demolition drive on November 25 this year when it demolished a five-storied illegal commercial building constructed on plot-126/A at Ashok Nagar. According to sources, nearly 100 buildings are constructed in the city violating the BDA and BMC approvals and they would be demolished shortly.
