The two prominent leaders of the Navanirman Krushak Sangathan (NKS), convener Akshaya Kumar and its associate convener Seshadev Nanda were released from the Jharpada Special Jail after a city court granted bail to both, who were on a hunger strike in the jail here.
The Commissionerate police had arrested the duo along with several other farmer leaders a day ahead of the NKS called for a mega farmers’ rally in Bhubaneswar on December 14. Since then, the two farmer leaders were on hunger strike in the jail decrying the police action and State Government’s insensitiveness towards the farming community.
Police also had detained and arrested hundreds of farmers who were heading to Bhubaneswar on December 14.
After coming out of the jail Kumar said the a Gana Satyagraha would be organised on January 13 in Bhubaneswar against the Government’s anti-farmer attitude.
