While the nation is feeling proud for child right activist Kailash Satyarthi for winning Nobel Prize for peace, the State Government has failed to provide safety, security and basic human rights to children by not responding to the notices of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on child rights, alleged rights activist Radhakanta Tripathy.
Tripathy alleged that though the NHRC had sought a report from Malkangiri Collector on the tragic incident of B Yakub, a school student who has been electrocuted after being employed in Pradhan Mantri Sadak Yojana, the administration is yet to submit its report even though the four weeks deadline elapsed.
In another case, Tripathy alleged that the commission has sought an action taken report (ATR) from the Nabarangapur Collector over the tragic incident of Kanakdei, a school student who has immolated herself due to humiliation for failure of payment of school fees.
“In this case also the District Magistrate failed to reply even after the expiry of four weeks time,” alleged Tripathy.
