The district police are yet to make any headway in a mysterious murder that occurred on the Saturday last.
The incident took place at Agurgarhira under Rupsa police station limits. The deceased was identified as Bhagban Pradhan (45). Pankajini Pradhan (37), wife of the deceased, said she went to sleep after serving dinner to her husband on Friday night. The power had gone off.
However, she was shocked to find that her husband was bleeding at around 3.30 am. There were injuries on his head and ear. Soon, she raised an alarm. The fellow villagers rushed to the spot and shifted Bhagaban to the district headquarters hospital where he was declared brought dead.
Senior police officers along with a scientific team and sniffer dog reached the spot and launched a probe. The police recovered a wooden plank with blood stains in the backyard of Bhagaban’s house.
IIC Debendra Kumar Acharya said, “A murder case under Section 302 of IPC was registered. We are interrogating Bhagaban’s wife and their two grown up children.” The couple had slept in a newly-constructed pucca house which had no doors. Bhagban earned his livelihood by making and supplying leaf plates, Acharya said.
