The Balangir Action Committee began observing a two-day bandh in the town from Wednesday demanding fulfilment of three major demands.
Members of the committee resorted to picketing in front of Government offices and banks in the morning. However, shops and other business establishments, educational institutions and vehicular movement were excluded from the ambit of the bandh.
Several organisations and associations of the district have extended support to the bandh call. The demands of the agitators are establishment of a permanent Bench of the Orissa High Court here, rehabilitation and compensation for the oustees of Lower Suktel project and construction of a bypass road in the town.
