Two commissions in 11 days

The Odisha Government is no doubt in deep trouble.

This is evident from the development which took place on July 21 when law Minister Arun Kumar Sahoo announced formation of a Judicial Commission headed by former High Court Judge BP Das to suggest remedies on how to streamline management of the Shree Jagganth Temple at Puri.

Earlier on July 10, the State Government had announced setting up of a Judicial Commission to probe into the death of five tribals during an anti-Maoist operation in Kandhamal. The Government has, however, not so far named the head of this commission.

The Puri temple is in news for last one year due to negative developments since the lords’ Nabakalebar festival till the recent Rath Yatra.

The Government is facing huge embarrassment due to a widespread hue and cry over the irregularities in the temple affairs and repeated attacks on the religious sentiments of devotes of lord Jagannath.

The Government, which is supposed to ensure smooth functioning of the temple, instead became a party by allegedly providing protection to the servitors involved and encouraged breaking of tradition and laws.
