Two minor brothers went missing while taking bath in the Rushikulya river near Bhimpur village under the Purushottampur police station in Ganjam district on Wednesday.
The siblings were identified as Sangram Pradhan (17) and Subham Pradhan (13), sons of Goutam Pradhan of the same village.
Sources said the duo had gone to the river to take bath along with some friends. While swimming in the river, the siblings ventured deep into the water and were unable to swim ashore after being swept away by strong currents.
Locals present at the spot immediately launched a search for the missing brothers and informed their family members about the mishap.
Later, police, Fire Service and ODRAF personnel rushed to the spot and launched a search operation to trace the missing boys. But till filing of the report they were yet to locate them. After the incident, a pall of has descended in the village.
