Two abandoned infants, a boy and a girl, were rescued in two separate incidences in Jajpur and Ganjam districts, respectively, on Tuesday.
In the first case, an abandoned newborn girl was rescued at Salepur village under Mirzapur gram panchayat under the Dharmasala police station in Jajpur district.
“Police are trying to track down the baby's parents. A case has been lodged against the unidentified parents of the child under Section 317 of the IPC. The child was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), said Dharmasala PS IIC Umakanta Nayak.
The District Child Welfare Committee (CWC) members took the custody of the infant as per the law, added Nayak.
“After knowing about the incident, I rushed to the village and admitted the infant in the DHH,” said ASHA worker of the village, Ranjita Samal.
In the other incidence, locals found a baby boy abandoned near a bush in Sorada village under the Buguda police station in the morning. They admitted the baby in the Bellaguntha Government Hospital. After a primary health checkup, one Kailash Rana of the village has adopted the baby.
