After a decomposed carcass of an elephant was found in the Kuldiha sanctuary, the wildlife authorities on Friday suspended two forest officials for their dereliction in duty.

The dead elephant, about 45 years old, was spotted by villagers of Tenda with its tusks missing, indicating that it was the victim of poachers.

Divisional Forest Officer Biswaraj Panda, taking cognizance of the issue seriously, placed Forester Kishore Chandra Bhuyan and Forest Guard Lalmohan Singh under suspension. Besides, a show-cause notice was issued to Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF) Laxman Kumar Pradhan in connection with the incident.
