It looks like a reel scene in Prakash Jha’s Jai Ganga Jal has been re-enacted in Jhaber Village under Balumath police station.
Sources said that two persons in the age group of 14 to 25 were found ‘hanged to death’ on one tree. The two were hanging dead in opposite direction.
Sources said their hands were tied behind with their faces muffled with a cloth.
DIG police Palamu Saket Kumar Singh confirming the double murder, said ‘The case speaks loud and clear that the two were hanged to death as their hands were tied behind and no one on this planet can commit suicide with hands tied.’
DIG further added “ The two bore few of marks of assault. They were pinned down and then hanged to death.”
One of the two murdered, has been identified as Majloom Ansari (25). DIG said the other 14 year old boy was identified as Azad Khan. The two hailed from two villages Balu and Nawada.
DIG told The Pioneer ‘I got this information around 7 in the morning of Friday March 18. The two are expected to have been hanged late at night of March 17’.
Sources said that the two were connected with cattle business.
Following the twin murders, NH 99 was jammed for hours by the enraged public protesting against it.
The NH 99 protesters demanded arrest of the killers and the payment of ex gratia relief to the bereaved families of the two.
Motive behind the twin murders is not clear. However sources said there could be vendetta as the crime has been committed, keeping in mind that no visible mark of injuries be left behind, which suggests deep seated vengeance.
Sources said prompt police action averted a major communal brew there, as passions were running high while some families engaged in butchery pelted stones at the police party, which had to resort to firing in air in which 10 to 15 rounds were fired which led for dispersal of the mob.
There has been no arrest so far. DIG termed the situation as under control, but palpable tension still prevails.
Police have beefed up its patrol. Police have called in a peace committee meeting late in evening on Friday, said sources.
DIG told The Pioneer SP latehar Anoop Birtharey is camping at the village and rumour mongers have been warned to keep at bay from any fissiparous tendencies.
