The monsoon rains continued to lash many parts of the coastal Odisha for the second consecutive day on Monday. The rains would continue for next two-three days, predicted the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The local Met office also predicted heavy showers at some places and blowing of gusty surface wind reaching a speed of 35-45 kmph along and off south Odisha coast.
Though the rains brought relief to people who had been reeling under scorching heat conditions across the State, yet it caused problems in urban areas like Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Puri. In Bhubaneswar, knee-deep water flowed for hours at Jaydev Vihar, Acharay Vihar, Nayapalli and Rasulgarh, causing disruption in traffic movement on the main roads. Similarly, roads at Badambadi, Telenga Bazaar, Kaaji Bazaar and some other low-lying areas in Cuttack remained inundated for hours.
The cyclonic circulation formed over southwest Bay of Bengal on Friday turned into a low pressure and was centred between Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coast. Under its influence, there is heavy rainfall in most parts of the State.
Sea condition is likely to be moderate to rough for which fishermen have been advised to be cautious while venturing into it.
