A 13-year-old girl, a Class VII student of Tikhiri village in Mahakalpada block under Marshaghai police station limits, was allegedly raped on Wednesday last by her private tutor.
Kendrapada SDPO Nrushingha Charan Swain said the victim girl’s mother on Sunday night lodged a FIR at the Marshaghai police station alleging that while her daughter was attending a tuition class at the Tikhiri-based Saraswati Sisu Mandir, 47-year-old tutor Ashoka alias Diptikanta Pradhan allegedly raped her. The accused told the girl to come to another room and raped her forcibly. The victim girl told her mother about the incident five days later.
The victim’s mother alleged that the accused tutor along with his two other associates allegedly threatened her and her husband of dire consequences if they lodged a complaint with police.
Meanwhile, police have registered a case under Sections 376, 506 and 34 of IPC and on Monday arrested Pradhan. Besides, the police also sent Pradhan and the victim girl for medical test at the district headquarters hospital and have started further inquiry in the case, said SDPO Swain.
