The body of a middle-aged tusker in Angarpada village under Banki Forest Range of Sundargarh district was recovered by forest officials on Friday.

The Rourkela Divisional Forest Officer and the Regional Chief Conservator of Forest (RCCF) visited the spot. A team of veterinary officials conducted postmortem on the jumbo’s body. Forest officials informed that on Thursday night nine elephants had entered Anagarpada village. Searching for food, the elephants entered into several houses. One of them damaged a house in the village and ate cooked rice, raw rice, dal, urea and pesticides kept in the house.

Then, the elephants went back to the forest. But after proceeding about 100 metre, a tusker, which had reportedly eaten urea and pesticides, died in a paddy field.
