Turmeric factory raided in Balangir

The Town police on Monday raided a turmeric processing factory at Club Pada in the town after getting reports of adulterated spices were being manufactured and packed in packets of reputed companies.

“We were getting reports that adulteration of turmeric was going on in this unit by adding broken rice husk and other materials and it was being sold to people. A team of the Town police led by Sangram Pattnaik raided the unit of Rakesh Sharma at Club Pada and seized the rice husk and other materials,” said Balangir SDPO Srimata Barik to mediapersons.

“We have requisitioned the service of Food Inspector and the seized samples would be sent for examination and accordingly steps would be taken as per the law,” added Barik.

But the factory’s owner Sharma denied any adulteration was done at his factory.  Reports said police have detained three persons including Sharma for questioning.
