TU leader unhappy over PPT Trustee polls

Published on:

Veteran trade union leader and former Paradip Port (PPT) Trustee Sudhakar Mantry has expressed unhappiness over the just-concluded PPT Trustee elections.

He alleged that money and muscle powers were used to woo voters of the elections. He said that usually, PPT employees having their affiliation to different trade unions elect two members to the PPT Trust Board. The elections used be fought earlier in a very cordial manner among the working trade unions, as a result of which he had been elected twice to the board.

Mantry said the PPT employees used to vote taking leadership and capability of the contestants into account, but this time he witnessed that there was a gross departure from the old parameters and some employees were purchased or terrorised to cast votes for a particular trade union, which has set a bad precedent.

However, he greeted the two elected PPT Trustees Paresh Murmu and Rabi Das.
