Opposing the vehicle scrapping policy, the Odisha Truck Owners’ Association has called for a State-wide strike from January 11.
The truck owners threatened to stop plying their vehicles from the midnight of January 11 for an indefinite period over a five-point charter of demands including rollback of the decision on scrapping the vehicles which are older than 15 years.
The All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) has extended its support to the strike, informed Odisha Truck Owners’ Association general secretary Rabi Narayan Satapathy.
The association demanded that the State Government extend the scrapping time of vehicles from 15 to 20 years.
All trucks in Odisha would go off the roads if the Government fails to meet the demands by January 11. The trucks from other States can move via Odisha but would not be allowed for transporting goods to the State. Around 2.15 lakh trucks would join the strike, he said.
