The Sambalpur police arrested three persons from Athamalik and Boudh involved in dacoity of foreign liquor of Rs 45 lakh from a truck. The arrestees were identified as Aswini Bagarti, Bibhurendra Mallick and Dolamani Salma.
A truck from Ekamkana plant of Puri district loaded with 950 cartons of foreign liquor was going to Hissar of Haryana. Near Mochibahal on NH-55, three persons stopped the truck, tied its driver’s legs and hands and brought the truck towards Binka in Subarnapur district via Sambalpur and Godbhaga. They also threw the GPS of the truck so that no one could track them.
They unloaded all foreign liquor cartons in a known person’s godown and again proceeded towards Naktideul in Sambalpur district and left the driver in a secluded place.
However, the driver made a complaint in the Charmal police station, after which police made efforts to nab the culprits which was a difficult one as the driver couldn’t give any clue. “But after a sincere investigation and local inputs, we could arrest the three persons and recover the entire stolen materials from Binika,” said Sambalpur SP B Gangadhar.
There are also cases pending against Aswini Bagarti and Bibhurendra Mallik in different police stations of the State including one under Arms Act in the State capital, the SP added.
