The Tripura Government has suspended Odia IPS officer Joydeep Nayak, who is accused of siphoning off Rs 88 lakh meant for computer education of SC and ST students and self-help groups (SHGs) in Odisha during his deputation to the State.
The 1991-batch Tripura-cadre officer was suspended from the service reportedly basing on a report of the Odisha Vigilance Directorate. He is the prime accused in the Rs 88-lakh fraud case.
The senior cop has remained untraced ever since Vigilance sleuths arrested five accused, including two senior police officials, for their complicity in the fraud case. The scam occurred when Nayak was on a deputation to Odisha as the IG of SC & ST Protection Cell, HRPC.
According to reports, Nayak had undergone a ligament surgery on his leg at the Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi and was discharged from the hospital on June 22. Since then, he is untraceable.
However, Nayak has, meanwhile, prayed for an anticipatory bail from the Orissa High Court.
