Former Nabarangpur Municipal Chairperson Prahalada Tripathy was elected as general secretary of the Nabarangpur District Athletic Association. Around 87 members of 40 affiliated clubs of the district exercised their franchise in the poll held on Saturday for various office bearers posts of the association.
Tripathy was elected by defeating his immediate rival Santosh Patnaik by a margin of 68 votes. Similarly Ashok Kumar Nayak was elected as sectional secretary( Cricket) by defeating Pradeep Patnaik with a margin of 66 votes. The other elected office-bearers who were declared as uncontested are M Bala Krishna Rao as vice-president, Hare Krushna Panda as treasurer, Manoj Kumar Patnaik and Khalid Tanbir Jilani as joint-Secretary, Monohar Mohanty as sectional secretary ( Football), Durga Prasad Mallik as sectional secretary ( Hokey) , Krushna Prasad Patnaik as sectional secretary ( Indoor) , Jitendra Paricha as sectional secretary ( Athletics) and Ananta Murty as sectional secretary ( Volley Ball ).
Nabarangpur District Collector Dr Ajit Kumar Mishra and Superintendent of Police Prahalad Sahai Meena also cast their votes as ex officio members of the association.
