More than 2,000 tribals of Sunadragarh district coming under the banner of Sundargarh Zilla Adiwasi Mulwasi Bachao Manch (SZAMBM) suddenly ghearoed the Raj Bhavan here on Wednesday, giving a headache to the city police.

The tribals came in a rally from the railway station to the Raj Bhawan and organised a public meeting there. Biramitrapur MlA Jorge Tirkey, former MP Braja Tripathy, manch convenor letha Tirkey and Deme Oram addressed the gathering.

They criticised the State Government of Odisha for not withdrawing theNovember 14 notification, which envisages inclusion of tribal villages in the Rourkela Municipality Corporation (RMC), despite the stay imposed by the Odisha High Court.

“The Government does not feel ashamed of and have failed to withdraw the illegal notification till date, said the leaders. They later submitted a memorandum in this regard. In the memorandum, they mentioned that the November 14th notification for formation of Rourkela Municipal Corporation be repealed and steps be taken to maintain peace and good governance in schedule areas.

They have alleged in the memorandum that the Government has violated laws for the Fifth Scheduled Areas, PESA Act 1996 and the Forest Rights Act 2006.
