Tribals' bandh hits life in Rayagada

Published on:

A six-hour bandh called on Tuesday by the Adivasi Yuva Samaj protesting the killing of five tribals in Kandhamal during an anti-Maoist combing operation on Friday night last affected normal life in Rayagada district.

While shops and other business establishments remained closed, vehicular movement was badly hit as members of the Samaj staged road blockade at many places by burning tyres. However, emergency services and educational institutions were excluded from the ambit of the bandh call.

There were no reports of any major violence during the bandh.

Yesterday, a 12-hour dawn-to-dusk bandh called by the Congress and the BJP separately had been observed in Kandhamal district.
