A tribal youth was denied treatment by a few doctors of the SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack a few days ago, alleged CPI (Ml) leader Mahendra Parida at a Press meet here on Sunday.

Though the State Government has been shouting for the development of the tribals by implementing various schemes and programmes, the doctors’ refusal and insensitivity of the medical authorities reflected the that nobody has any heart for the poor people, Parida said.

According to Parida, tribal youth Prakash Nayak of Sebatipur village under Delanga police station in Puri district, who had sustained serious injuries after an accident, was admitted in the SCB at around 8 pm on  August 17 last. But he was left unattended by the doctors along with medical staff till 10 am on the very next day. After 16 hours’ delay, a doctor from Neurology department came to examine the condition of the patient. He advised patient’s elder brother Rahas

Nayak to shift Prakash to a nursing home for further treatment. The doctor completed his responsibility by injecting saline and oxygen. Even the nurse and other employees didn’t feel the importance of the severely injured patient for dressing the septic place on the head. Rahas requested all the doctors and medical authorities to help him out, but his pleading fell on the deaf ears of the authorities.

Frustrated and helpless, Rahas brought his brother to a private hospital in the city for treatment. By selling all the valuables of his home, he admitted his brother for treatment.Parida demanded the State Government to provide medical assistance to the tribal youth and stringent action against the culprits who denied treatment in the Government medical.
