There is no letup in the death of children due to Japanese Encephalitis (JE) in Malkangiri district. Two more children succumbed to the vector-borne disease at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), taking the death toll in the dreaded disease to 95 in 58 days.

The day’s deceased were identified as Priya Khara (2) of Tulibeda village of Korukonda block and Basanti Jani (2) of Kumutiguda in the district.

The expert team formed by the State Government is still in the tribals-dominated district for ground study. It had visited Daniguda, Badali, Palakonda and Doriguda villages in four groups for a scientific survey.

Meanwhile, upset over the Government’s failure in tackling the menace, the Malkangiri District Adivasi Samaj Mahasangh has called a Malkangiri Bandh on Tuesday. The Mahasangh would also hold a massive rally in front of the district Collectorate on Wednesday to highlight the issue.

Mahasnagh president Ghanashyam Madkami said the bandh would be held in protest against the Government’s insensitiveness towards the tribals.

“We have decided to observe bandh in the district on Tuesday. On Wednesday we will gherao the Collectorate and submit memorandum to the Collector highlighting our plight,” said Madkami.
