The railway authorities conducted the trial run between Rajsunakhala and Bolgarh after completion of the track, covering a distance of 13 km.

The ECoR had earlier set a target to complete the track between Rajsunakhala and Bolgarh by June 2016. last year in July, Union Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu had flagged off the first-ever train to run on the 32-km stretch of the Khurda Road-Begunia section of the Khurda-Bolangir track at the Begunia station. Notably, the 289-km Khurda-Bolangir railway project was conceived in 1994-95.
