For the third time in a month, large parts of Odisha were shaken by tremors on Tuesday at about 12.35 pm, spreading panic in the State. No loss was reported.

Terming the earthquake as one of “great intensity”, the Met centre said the quake with its epicentre at latitude 27.70 North and longitude 86.00 East in Nepal measured 7.3 on the Richter scale.

The epicentre of the earthquake was at a distance of about 825 km from Bhubaneswar in the direction of north and, hence, no major damage occurred in Odisha.

The tremors were felt for a few seconds at many places, including the Twin City of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Ganjam and Sundargarh.

In Bhubaneswar, people were seen rushing out of high-rise buildings and apartments into the open.

“I had gone to the Cesu office at Power House Square to deposit my electricity bill when the quake occurred. All on a sudden, furniture and fans started shaking and everybody, including the staff, rushed out,” a man said.
