In a shocking incident, a minor boy was critically injured as a tree-branch pierced into his neck after he fell off a blackberry tree at Dhangadiha village under the Ghagaon police limits in Keonjhar district on Friday.
The boy Bishnu Mahakud (12) has been admitted to the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack.
According to reports, the boy fell off the blackberry tree while plucking berries and a branch of another tree near the blackberry tree peirced through his neck.
The locals rescued the boy by cutting the branch. The victim was rushed to the Ghatagaon Community Health Centre (CHC) from where he was shifted to the Keonjhar District Headquarters Hospital in critical condition.
After doctors failed to remove the branch got stuck in his neck, he was referred to SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack for surgery.
According to sources, the boy had undergone various medical tests and X-ray imaging. On receipt of medical reports, a team of doctors would conduct the surgery.
