Trauma care unit not functioning

Nagarika Adhikar Surakshya O Durniti Nibaran Sangh, a civil society body, on Monday submitted a memorandum to the district Collector on the deficiencies in the healthcare system in the district and urged his intervention.

The body, besides stating that accidents on the NH were an order of the day, lamented the nonfunctioning of a trauma care centre, which was ready in the DHH complex since about two years for want of machineries.

The patients who are suffering from kidney ailments and undergoing dialysis in the hospitals in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar are paying money through their noses as the DHH doesn’t have the facility. Similarly, while there is no CT scanning facility in the DHH, the poor patients are paying high price in the private clinics and diagnostic centers.

Sangh president Baidyanath Sarangi said, “Baleswar district is considered as one of the advanced districts, but it lacks minimum facilities for the patients. A large number of patients have to rush to Cuttack and Bhubaneswar as advanced healthcare is not available here.

The DHH is short of modern equipment. Most unfortunately, the trauma care centre which missed the deadline over four years is still not opened.”

There is no ENT specialist in the DHH and the other hand, the audio metre which has gone unserviceable is still to be repaired.

A large number of posts of doctors and paramedics are lying vacant.
