While the Cuttack city police are still clueless about the identities of Friday’s firing incident at Mangalabag, unidentified gunmen shot dead a transporter near the Badambadi bus terminus on Saturday evening.
According to the police, Ajay Rout (36) of nearby Shankarpur area was shot at by three unidentified persons near Pala Mandap at around 5 pm when the bus owner was returning home by his motorcycle. A profusely-bleeding Rout succumbed to two gunshot injuries in his head and face while he was being rushed to hospital.
The police suspected that previous rivalries relating to transport business could be the cause of the firing. But the police were yet to get any clues about the attackers even as a massive manhunt was launched by a special squad of the police.
The Saturday’s incident coming within 30 hours of the Mangalabag firing on a medicine shop owner has left the city police in a tizzy. The back-to-back firing incidents have led to panic among the residents, more so when the city DCP is on leave for over a week now.
