Transgenders to protest Amit Shah

Decrying the Central Government’s slipshod attitude in granting its share to the State under the Umbrella scheme aimed at providing better education facilities to transgender children and providing financial aid to them, transgenders in the State are all set to protest BJP national president Amit Shah’s proposed visit here on November 25.

All Odisha Kinnar and Third Gender Association treasurer Partha Sarathi Jena on Saturday said the Central Government is yet to provide its 75-per cent share to the State under the Umbrella scheme.

“During last Assembly session, the Odisha Government has made a provision of Rs 4 crore under the Umbrella scheme. Unfortunately, the Centre is yet to give its (75 per cent) share,” said Jena.

The association also demanded immediate issuance of BPl cards to the thirdgenders, their inclusion in Aadhar scheme, housing scheme, land pattas to land less transgenders and four per cent reservation in political field.
