Transfer real governance to rural people: CSD

Published on:

When the whole State is preparing to celebrate the Panchayati Raj Day on April 24, the Campaign for Survival and Dignity (CSD) that strives for implementation of Forest Rights Act-2006 in the country seeks transfer of real ‘governance power to the rural people’ on this day.

The CSD is of the view that when the Panchayati Raj system is claimed to have been adopted for the decentralisation of democracy in the rural India, it is seriously lacking ‘governance by the local people.

Alleging influence of Government employees while taking Gram Sabha resolution by Gram Sabha members, the CSD said under the Panchayati Raj system, the community people at village level are not free to hold Gram Sabha as and when required; they are not free to write or record their resolution and keep the register of Gram Sabha resolution in the village.

The body urged the State Government to discard the Palli Sabha and Gram Sabha concept under the Panchayati Raj system and adopt FRA Gram Sabha in every village.
