Training to make SMCs more effective

With an aim to make the School Management Committees (SMCs) more effective and transparent, the National Coalition for Education, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), on Sunday held a training programme here for members of various NGOs who would subsequently train SMC members in their respective areas.

Twenty trainers from various NGOs from Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and West Bengal, besides Odisha honed skills on effective functioning of SMCs, which function in Government schools at the elementary level.

“The trainers were imparted skills to prepare school development plan (SDP), management of various grants, with which they will train SMC members subsequently in their respective areas,” said National Coalition for Education State advocacy coordinator Naba Kishor Pujari.

Pujari said, “The State Government’s attempt to train SMC members is not satisfactory. So, we are preparing some graduate trainers so that they can help the SMCs perform up to the expectation in their localities.”
