A five-day training programme on life skills based Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) education for district-level resource persons kicked off at the KIIT University here on Tuesday.

The focus of the programme is to develop a district-level resource base to upscale life skills programme in the districts. The programme is attended by 61 selected resource persons, 40 men and 21 women, from nine districts Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Keonjhar, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Rayagada.

It was proposed to expand life skills-based SRH intervention to 200 Special School District (SSD) High Schools and 101 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) in the nine districts. The resource persons would be engaged in providing handholding technical guidance to the schools for implementation of the intervention. Programme Coordinator of UNFPA Hemant Dwivedi said education must lead to produce social capital.
