A schoolgirl was knocked down to death by a trailer near Harichandanpur College Chhak in Keonjhar district on Saturdaymorning.
The deceased Monika Sahoo, a Class-VIII student, was hit by the vehicle when she was returning from her tuition. The girl died on the spot. Tension prevailed in the area following the incident as irate locals ransacked the trailer and blocked the Naranpur-Duburi road keeping the body on the road demanding compensation for the family members of the deceased.
On being informed, police reached the spot and tried to pacify the locals.
