Traffic on the Koraput-Jeypore Road was disrupted and locals around Jeypore’s Deoghat area could not eat cooked food for over a day as the authorities failed to lift the overturned IOCl lPG tanker from the mishap spot in Koraput district.

Notably, the lPG tanker carrying 17 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (lPG) veered off the road and fell into a nullah near Deoghat at around 2 pm on Monday. The staff of the gas tanker had escaped narrowly.

While fire service, police and IOCl personnel were still taking efforts to transfer the gas from the overturned tanker to another tanker and lift the vehicle by Tuesday afternoon, district administration officials were yet reach the spot.

The electricity was disconnected from the area and people of nearby villages were asked not to use any kind of fire for domestic and other purposes. As a consequence, people belonging to 21 families of Gajanabadi village, where the tanker overturned, couldn’t eat cooked food and spent

the day taking chura (flattened rice) and mudhi (fried

rice).

Similarly, thousands of vehicles were stranded on both the ends of the mishap site for over 24 hours. Besides, mobile networks were also snapped.
