It was a harrowing experience for thousands of commuters in the capital city as traffic jams paralysed vehicular movement while over 50,000 BJD workers welcomed party supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the airport here and went in a procession with him up to the Naveen Niwas.
Traffic movements on several major roads were severely affected due to influx of such a large number of people with vehicles. This apart, traffic restrictions were also imposed by authorities in various routes.
Thousands of motorcycles, scooters and cars moved at snail’s pace on Janpath, Sachivalay Marg near Lokseva Bhawan, AG Square, Airport Square, Ganganagar Road, Forest Park Road, Sishu Bhawan Square, Capital Hospital Square, Rajmahal Square and Kalpana Square.
Many people got late for reaching their offices.
An ambulance, which was coming from Raj Bhavan Square, got stuck in the traffic snarl near AG Square for about 30 minutes. A 108 Ambulance also halted on the road near the State Assembly.
