The vehicular traffic on NH-60 was disrupted for about 6 hours from 7 am on Monday as the residents of Chasakhand demanding an all-weather road, picketed on the NH near the Fuladi Square.
As a result, hundreds of vehicles were stranded midway under scorching heat causing several inconveniences to the commuters as well as drivers. The picketing was lifted after the Sub Collector assured them of addressing their issues. District Collector K Sudarshan Chakravarthy said that he would hold talks with the land owners of the land on which the road was constructed, said Premaranjan Patra who led the agitation. “The villagers demand a motorable road, a stretch of about 3 km from the NH to village Chasakhand. The existing road is made on private lands. Since the road turned dilapidated and unworthy, it is very difficult as well as risky to ply vehicles on the stretch of road.
The road leads to Baghajatin memorial where the freedom fighter fought his last battle with the British. Hundreds of tourists including from Bengal visit place to pay homage as well as to seememorial but they face a tough time crossing stretch,” added Patra.
