Traders directed to sell potato below Rs15

Published on:

The State Government on Tuesday directed all the traders not to hike potato price beyond Rs15 per kg. Action will be taken against the traders violating the direction, said State Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Welfare Secretary Madhusudan Padhi.

Padhy said the district Collectors have also been directed to keep eye on the hoarders and black-marketers in their respective districts. If anybody violates the Government direction and hikes prices of potato and onion, the concerned Collectors will take appropriate action against them, he added.

As the market rate of potato is high in West Bengal and rain in Nasik has created problem in onion production, the prices of the vegetables went up in the State. “But anyway, regular supply of onion from Andhra Pradesh will help in controlling the price,” said Padhi.

The Secretary hoped that the condition would back to normal in May.
