Director of Municipal Sanjeeb Kumar Mishra on Tuesday assured a delegation of the All Orissa Roadside Vendors’ Association (AORVA) that town vending committees (TVCs) would soon be constituted in all urban local bodies in the State as per the Street Vendors Act 2014.
“Following the enactment of Street Vendors Act 2014 by the Union Government, almost all States except Odisha have constituted TVCs in their urban local bodies to streamline the rehabilitation of roadside vendors. Following the Supreme Court’s order, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation had held only one meeting to this effect two years ago, which is a matter of great concern,” said association general secretary Dhirendra Swain.
Swain said, “We apprised the Municipal Director about the Act. He assured us to take steps to ensure constitution of TVCs in all UlBs in the State as per law.”
The association too submitted a 12-point charter of demands to the Director to this effect.
