The tollgates have become sources of illegal income with touts earning hefty bucks in connivance with the local police through contractual employees.
This was alleged by the some of the retrenched casual employees, who were working in the tollgate at Sergarh. According to them, money collections are made from trucks carrying goods at the behest of local goons. They were removed from the gate without assigning any reason as they objected to this corrupt practice, they said.
They further alleged that although they were on a dharna near the tollgate in the protest against their illegal retrenchments yet they were being threatened by the police. They were asked to vacate the agitation venue or else they would be booked under different sections of IPC.
They said they would gherao of the office of the district Superintendent of Police on Wednesday in the protest against their retrenchment and police action.
