In an attempt to check rash driving, the Transport Department has issued a circular acting tough on the erring drivers.
The licence of the driver and the fitness certificate and route permit of the vehicle would be scrapped for causing death or critical injuries to anybody.
The owner of the vehicle would also be issued a show-cause notice.
If the driver is found responsible for anybody’s death or critical injuries due to wrong driving, the department would initiate action against him as per Section 19 of the Motor Vehicle Act 1988.
The driver’s licence would be scrapped for six months and fitness certificate of the vehicle would be cancelled very soon if police register a case over the accident as per Section 21 of the MV Act. The particular vehicle cannot ply on road till a fresh permit is issued. The Transport Commissioner has asked the RTOs to give report on the number of licences cancelled.
Recently, the CAG, in his report, criticised the State Government for not taking adequate measures to ensure road safety.
