Top engineer in poll fray in capital city

Engineer lalit Mohan Patnaik will fight elections for the Assembly from the Bhubaneswar Central constituency as a candidate of the Samata Kranti Dal (SKD) floated by former Union Minister Braja Kishore Tripathy.

Patnaik has always been raising issues of Odisha in local, national and international forums. A resident of Bhubaneswar Central, he was a Chief Engineer in Nalco and took the lead against the move for public-sector company’s sellout to private sector. With his intervention and all wide support from the State, the sellout bid was stopped and then he took voluntary retirement from the Navratna PSU. He also fought tooth and nail for bringing NISER, IIT AIIMS and Central University to Odisha.

As the working chairman of Odisha Nagrik Samaj (ONS), he led several people’s movements for a better deal for Odisha in the sectors of railways, electricity, environment, health and education. The ONS drafted a Bill for ‘Time-Bound Delivery of Public Service’, which has been passed by the State Assembly and has become an Act. “Similarly, we have also drafted and submitted a lokayukta Bill and climate change action plan,” Patnaik said.
