Top cop in K'put to review anti-Maoist op

A day after two security personnel were killed in landmine blast triggered by Maoists, IG (Operations) Soumendra Kumar Priyadarshi on Saturday rushed to the explosion site in Koraput district and reviewed the anti-Maoist operation continuing in the area.

He held meetings with senior police and paramilitary personnel to take stock of the situation and devise further strategy to combat the Maoist menace.

Priyadarshi visited the Kaliajhula area of Ramgiri under the Boipariguda police limits where a Deputy Commandant and a jawan of the Border Security Force (BSF) were killed on Friday during a combing operation.

A group of around 20 BSF personnel were returning by two-wheelers when the landmine went off, hardly three km from their camp, killing the duo and injuring another.

The blast occurred on the day when the outlawed CPI(Maoist) was observing a bandh in Nuapada, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur districts and parts of neighbouring Chhattisgarh in protest against the Operation Green Hunt.
