Three top officials of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday visited the CBI Bhubaneswar office to review the progress of the ongoing multi-crore chit fund scam probe in the State. According to sources, Additional Director of CBI Rakesh Asthana, new SIT Joint Director Nabin Singh and Anti-Corruption Joint Director AK Singh visited the CBI office here.
The trio reviewed the progress of scam with the investigating officers (IOs) and the CBI Bhubaneswar SP. They also took stock of the present status of the probe of different chit fund companies. However, in last few months no raids or interrogation have been conducted by the Central investigation agency in the State, raising questions about the progress of the probe.
While as per the Supreme Court order the CBI has been directed to probe the activities of 44 tainted chit fund firms, the Central agency has so far been able to start probing the scams of a mere five to six firms. Sources said the CBI may conduct massive raids on some firms in near future.
