A meeting of top CBI officials of Kolkata (east zone) was convened at the investigating agency’s office here on Thursday. Agency east zone Additional Director Rakesh Asthaana chaired the meeting.
Sources said the meeting was held to discuss on the current status of the chit fund scam probe being undertaken by the CBI in Odisha, West Bengal, and Assam following the direction of the Supreme Court.
CBI Joint Director, Special Investigation Team (SIT) of chit fund scam Assistant Director, CBI Joint Director of Kolkata zone, CBI SPs of four zones and 25 Investigating Officers (IOs) were present at the meeting.
The CBI is probing the activities of 44 chit fund companies in Odisha. However, the investigating agency’s investigation has so far remained unsatisfactory. Sources said that out of the 44 companies, the agency has started probe into the activities of only four even after two years of the Supreme Court’s direction for a CBI probe.
